I am Hyeokjin Choi, a researcher working where body, device, and experience meet.
My work revolves around two practices:
Encoding Space is the practice of processing the multidimensional features of physical space. Grounded in XR device displays, sensors, and software, I capture, analyze, and induce human behavior to implement technologies with high usability. Technical methodologies from Ergonomics, Computational Optimization, Computer Graphics, Pattern Recognition, and Artificial Neural Networks are deployed to build novel technologies that address real-world problems.
Decoding Space is the practice of facing the phenomenological aspect of space. Anchored in philosophy of technology and a critical perspective on medium, I transmute flows between human and space into aesthetic work and conceptual design. Philosophical concepts from Information Theory, Somatics, Interaction Design, and Architecture are visited, moving fluidly between interpretive and pragmatic attitudes to articulate a contemporary discourse on space that transcends both data and materiality.
